Mother's Day Camping

Mother's Day Camping Adventure

Sam A. Baker Trip #2

Could this be a new tradition?  Perhaps.  About a month ago, when Kelly got out the family calendar and started suggesting dates to go camping, I honestly didn't even know this weekend was Mother's Day weekend.  This was one of the most fun trips we had.  It was jam-packed with lots of adventure and family time!

On the road again...

Winston is going with us...his first trip this year!

Smores are Camden's FAV!  He always suggests that's what we do first!

Goober!  Yes, he went barefoot almost the whole trip!

He gets it from his mother!  She didn't want to smile for the blog.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a big nerd.  I love learning about almost anything.  The boys have been doing the Missouri State Parks Explorer program since last summer.   They go to classes, studies, and programs and earn credit to receive a badge.  This trip will fill out our their card and they will become EXPLORERS!  I am glad they like it,  I would feel really weird going to these by myself.  I always learn lots of new things.

This week's lineup!

Saturday morning!  Off to the Visitor's Center for a Bird Hike!

They even gave us some sweet binoculars to use!

And we are off on our bird hunt!  We were looking to find and identify 10 different species of bird.

That would be Paxton trying to teach the park agent what he knows about cardinals.

Camden was really good at spotting the birds!

We found our 10 birds and even saw two different woodpeckers fighting over their favorite tree.  I am glad that I voted for the Soils and Water Sales Tax (click here to read)!  We get to enjoy all of these activities free of charge and at the same time fund our state parks!

Back to the camp to eat and chill.  Paxton loves his remote-controlled Jeep.

Best friends.

A quick trip to check out the river next to our campsite.

We were a little early to the program; therefore, a trip to the camp store is in order.

So many treasures!

Program #2:  Pollinator Power

A family affair.

Paxton teaching a lesson again...

Color the pollen with chalk and cotton balls act like pollinators picking up the pollen to spread!

After a quiz on all the things we wouldn't have if the pollinators died, the boys received their Explorer badges!

Explaining what all the parts mean.

Two new Missouri State Park Explorers!

No trip to a visitor's center would be complete without seeing the snakes.  Camden loved it...Pax hid behind mom and asked questions about a fox pelt to get her attention and so she would put the snake away.

Paxton trying to make "owl eyes"

We bought the boys some slingshots to celebrate their accomplishment!

Back to the river to run out the rest of the day.  Pax and throwing rocks...

Brothers

A little exploring.

Went back to get the fire ready to grill some burgers.

Chilling until the fire burned down.  That is one of the best parts of camping...waiting.

My view for the afternoon...I love this!

Got some Jimmy Buffett rocking on our Solera Speakers @lippertcomponents  One of our best upgrades.

Off to bed!  Mother's Day is tomorrow!

I woke up early and took the coffee maker outside to let everyone else sleep in a bit!

Breakfast of Champs!

Winston liked the soft pile of leaves!

Good Morning!  Excited to give Mommy her gifts!

Kelly wanted to eat at the little restaurant, but it was closed.   This is our go-to camp breakfast,  cinnamon rolls in the waffle iron.

All in all, she got a good haul of gifts.
Kelly took the boys back to the river to play while I packed up.

Everyone was tuckered out on the way home.  It was a great weekend.  This might become our new Mother's Day tradition.  It was fun and full of adventure and family time.  It was a great trip!
